Conus capitaneus

The Captain’s Cone

conus capitaneus

The Captain’s cone is found in intertidal and entire subtidal. In the Philippines these snails are found in waters around 240 m. They are most commonly found on subtidal reef flats, on sand under coral rocks, and under boulders, rocks and coral slabs.

When taken alive this cone snail is covered with a skin or periostracum. Click this link to watch a video of a cone snail with a periostracum.
