Bursa nobilis

bursadorsal bursa The Noble Frog Shell

Reeve, 1844

This is a carnivorous snail believed to feed on polychaete worms that live in tubes. The frog shell is found in relatively deep water (50-200 meters) and is collected by setting fine nets on the ocean floor bottom overnight; they are picked up in the nets by the fishermen the next morning when they get tangled within these nets.

The frog shells are found in all tropical waters, and some members of the family can get very large, as close to a foot in length for the largest frog shells.
